"The Paradox Tree" is the 5th single of the Berlin based progressive metal band Dark Side Bright Side.

The idea takes inspiration from a book called “Terroni” from Pino Aprile, an Italian writer. The book’s main theme was to depict the recent history of southern Italy.

One of its chapters talks about the olive tree and its “immortality”. Obviously no tree is immortal. Any tree, reached a certain size, collapses under the weight of the new stems on the top, heavier than the bottom (that’s what happens for example with the sequoia tree). The olive tree, reached a certain age and size, starts getting empty in the middle, and instead of collapsing, it splits its strain in smaller ones, which slowly move away, making the original olive tree virtually immortal.

This story can be also seen as the metaphor of the transmission of our parents’ genetic makeup to us and our siblings, and even though our parents don't exist anymore, they will continue to exist in a certain way through their offspring.
